Dear ASCLA Members:
The 2015 Midwinter conference is in the great city of Chicago this year and I hope those of you who will be there will take time to visit with us at the ASCLA Happy Hour on Friday, 7-8pm at the Renaissance Blackstone – Bar Lower Lounge (cash bar). This is a great opportunity to network, mingle, meet up with old acquaintances (and find some new ones!) and have a little bit of fun. ASCLA’s leaders and volunteers will be available to talk about ASCLA, so be sure to bring a friend or anyone interested in learning more about or joining ASCLA. One of ASCLA’s strengths is that our small size allows us to network and connect with each other better than some of the bigger divisions, and with more fun! All members and visitors are welcome and encouraged to come.
One other event is sure to be of interest to all ASCLA members is the ASCLA leadership session, which will take place 10:00am – 11:30am, in the McCormick Place West – W192a immediately after the ASCLA board I meeting. ALA has posed 3 questions for us to respond to as they work on their strategic plan:
- What would success look like? How will we know if we’re successful?
- How do you think we might get there?
- How might you/your community (division, round table, committee, chapter, affiliate) help us get there?
We’ll gather the feedback from you at this meeting and send it to ALA. The second half of the meeting will be a facilitated discussion on the characteristics of different generations and managing them in the workforce. Stay tuned to the ASCLA website and blog for more details on this timely topic. We hope to see you at this interactive session!
If you’re interested in volunteering for ASCLA, you might also want to attend the ASCLA All-Committee meeting held on Saturday, January 31, 2015, Hilton Chicago – Buckingham Room. Many of our committees will be meeting and this is a great way to learn more about ASCLA’s work. All are encouraged and welcome to come to these meetings.
Last but not least, the ASCLA board will meet twice in Chicago; please feel free to join us as our honored guests. The board meetings will be held:
Board of Directors Meeting I (ASCLA)
Saturday, January 31, 2015
8:00 am -10:00 am
McCormick Place West – W192a
Board of Directors Meeting II (ASCLA)
Monday, February 2, 2015
12:00 pm – 1:30 pm
McCormick Place West – W195
It has been a wonderful year and I want to thank every ASCLA member and volunteer for all their dedicated work and loyalty in helping to make our division successful; it’s been a pleasure and a privilege to work with you! Have a happy new year!
Executive Director, ASCLA
