The Consortium Management Discussion Group had a lively discussion about dealing with the economic downturn. We hope to collect some of the ideas from that discussion and follow here on the wiki.

I thought it might help if a consortium could expand online training opportunities to allow library staff to avoid travel. [www.lynda.com] is one resource that offers a multiuser licensing option. The site offers many many topics and many samples to evaluate. I have tried some of the Photoshop tutorials and they were excellent. We are now encouraging some of our members to evaluate it before we purchase the license.

I heard at a previous meeting that booksale shoppers use a scanning device linked to a local or online database for quick evaluation of prices for used book. I thought a consortium could buy one and lend it to members as they prepare for booksales so they can identify the most valuable items in their stock. I am not sure about licensing. Has anyone done this? Here are links to two scanners I found on the web: asellertool.com [1] scoutpal.com [2]
