ASCLA encourages subject matter experts and experienced librarians to submit proposals for ASCLA Online Courses and Webinars to be presented November 2014 through August 2015.
Proposals must be submitted by October 24, 2014 for presentation November 2014 through August 2015. Online Courses and Webinars submitted during this open call period will be reviewed and approved by November 14, 2014.
ASCLA welcomes proposals on topics that will assist our diverse membership in improved service delivery and job performance. ASCLA’s members represent libraries serving special populations, including library users with disabilities, and adults and youth who are incarcerated or detained; independent librarians and consultants; state library agencies and their employees, public libraries serving or working with the previously cited populations and institutions; and library networks and cooperatives. Staff of these libraries and agencies include librarians, library paraprofessionals, and library support staff.

Attendees are charged a fee to participate in the course and receive a certificate upon completion. The fee includes ongoing access to an archived version of the course. Instructors will be paid a one-time course/curriculum development fee of $1,000 to set up the course initially, and $40 per participant thereafter.

Webinar presenters will be paid $150 for each webinar presented and will receive training and support for Adobe Connect, the webinar technology platform used by the division. Webinars are generally 1-1 ½ hours long.

The Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA) will host ASCLA 101, a networking and orientation event for interested, new and current members from 10:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, at the Las Vegas Hotel in conjunction with the 2014 ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas.
ASCLA, a division of ALA, represents librarians serving special populations; independent librarians and consultants; state library agencies; and library networks, cooperatives and consortia. Conference attendees involved or interested in these areas of librarianship are encouraged to attend ASCLA 101 where they can learn more about the division activities and special interest sections representing each of these topics. ASCLA member leaders will be on hand to answer questions about the division and help attendees best identify how they can be involved with ASCLA projects and activities.
“ASCLA 101 is an incredibly valuable event that supports member involvement and engagement,” said ASCLA President Sara Laughlin, “We’re excited for our first ASCLA 101 program. It’s a great opportunity to meet colleagues, find a home within ASCLA’s special interest groups and connect with other members. Any new, longtime or potential members of ASCLA should make ASCLA 101 the first official event of their conference experience.”
The event agenda includes a brief presentation about ASCLA, a raffle for fun prizes and significant time for networking. RSVPs are not required, however interested attendees are encouraged to add ASCLA101 to their schedule.
Interface, the official e-newsletter of ASCLA, is now accepting submissions for the next issue. The deadline is December 15th so that this issue can be published before the ALA Midwinter Meeting and provide the membership with details on all the ASCLA-related meetings events taking place in San Diego.
The goals of Interface are to 1) present the latest developments in the field of specialized and cooperative library activities through substantive articles and special focus issues, 2) communicate effectively among the diverse elements of the division and 3) report official acts and activities of the various units of the division. We would like to particularly focus on bringing all of the communities of ASCLA together through their common issues, as well as introducing the unique aspects of each community to the others. In particular, Interface is a great place to report on a successful program at your library or agency.
Articles should be sent as Word (.doc) attachments, and should include the name, title and institution/organization name for any authors. Articles of any length are accepted, however the length should be appropriate for an e-newsletter publication.
